Short answer: Epithalon (also spelled Epitalon) is a small synthetic peptide of four amino acids, developed in Russia from a pineal gland extract. Lab studies show it can switch on telomerase, the enzyme that protects the ends of chromosomes, and small human studies suggest it may help restore melatonin rhythm in older adults. Most of the research comes from one group, and there is no proof that it extends human life. It is best seen as an experimental longevity option, used with a physician and alongside proven habits.

Key facts about Epithalon

  • Structure: four amino acids (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly).
  • Origin: developed by Professor Vladimir Khavinson in St Petersburg, based on epithalamin, a natural extract of the pineal gland.
  • Main research claims: telomerase activation in cells, better melatonin rhythm, longer lifespan in some rodent studies.
  • Evidence level: early. Mostly cell, animal and small human studies from the same research school.
  • Usual use: short courses, often repeated once or twice a year, as set by a physician.
  • Our product: Epithalon 30 mg, 2,520 SAR.

What are telomeres and why do they matter?

Telomeres are protective caps at the ends of chromosomes, a little like the plastic tips on shoelaces. They get shorter each time a cell divides, and very short telomeres are linked to cell ageing. Telomerase is the enzyme that can rebuild them. In cell cultures, Epithalon increased telomerase activity and allowed cells to divide more times than usual. That is the main reason it is described as a longevity peptide.

A fair caution: longer telomeres are not automatically good. Cancer cells also use telomerase to keep growing. This is one reason people with cancer, or a strong history of it, should not use Epithalon without their oncologist.

What does the human research show?

Russian studies in older adults, published from the 1990s to the 2010s, reported better melatonin rhythm, improved markers of heart and immune function, and lower death rates over several years in groups given pineal peptides. These studies were small, not always randomised, and have not been repeated by independent teams. Western regulators have not approved Epithalon for any use.

So the honest summary is: interesting signals, a good safety record so far in the studies available, but no strong proof.

Epithalon and sleep

Because it comes from pineal research, Epithalon is often used by people whose sleep has become lighter with age. We compare it with DSIP and Ipamorelin in our article on the best peptides for sleep.

Other peptides used for longevity

Peptide Main idea Evidence
Epithalon Telomeres and melatonin rhythm Early, mostly one research group
Thymosin Alpha-1 Supports immune function that declines with age Approved as a medicine in some countries

What works better than any peptide

The strongest evidence for a longer, healthier life still comes from regular exercise, strength training, good sleep, not smoking, a healthy weight and control of blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol. Peptides, if used at all, sit on top of these, not in place of them.

Common questions

Is Epithalon safe?

Side effects in the published studies were few and mild, such as injection-site redness. Long-term safety in healthy people is not known, and it should be avoided in pregnancy and by people with cancer.

How is Epithalon usually taken?

Usually as a short course of daily injections over 10 to 20 days, sometimes repeated once or twice a year. Your physician will set the exact plan.

Will Epithalon make me look younger?

There is no good evidence of visible changes to skin or appearance. For skin, GHK-Cu has better data.

Is Epitalon the same as Epithalon?

Yes. Epitalon, Epithalon and Epithalone are different spellings of the same peptide.
